Life of the Church
When I began this series in 2019, I was going to document the life of one church, my church, First Baptist Church, Dayton, OH, in watercolor. At first I started with watercolor pencils and ink brush pens, and then I took a watercolor class, and began doing illustrations of our church life in watercolor, pen and ink, just as COVID-19 struck. Our church, like many, struggled. We moved online. We tried to adapt. Through it all we tried to stay together as a family. I wasn’t able to chronicle as much as I’d like to have—because at one point it was all Zoom, and Zoom portraits can be done once without there being a strange monotony to composition.
Hopefully, I will be able to rejoin my church soon, and begin gathering more pictures of our life AFTER COVID.
