Gardens of the Mythbegotten

Gardens of the Mythbegotten are watercolor paintings of fairies and other mythical creatures in garden
settings, recalling Romantic and Classical images of mythical creatures frolicking and the images of
cultured, enclosed gardens. Gardens have long been seen as a way to impose our will on chaos, our control
over wilderness, but they are also seen as a refuge from chaos, a place to contemplate, to escape, to
wander, to be at peace.

I created these images as a refuge from the chaos of 2020 in America today. These are places where
fairies, mermaids, minotaurs, gryphons, satyrs and other mythical beasts are relaxed, happy, joyful and
giving that joy back to the viewer. Inside these pictures there is peace.
